The Season ended in fine style with a Hunt Meet at the Senior Master's; at Blacklands Farm, Elstead. A good turnout of mounted and a strong following on foot were privileged to some warm and sunny weather. Not a good sign for the day's hunting ahead but when we left the Meet, hounds were away and hunting hard with very good scenting conditions, considering the weather. Hounds picked up the trail just opposite the bottom of the water meadows behind Broomfields. Then we crossed the lane and into the woods and on to the back of Shackleford village.
Hounds were picked up and brought back to the far end of Cutmill Car Park and laid onto a second trail where again hounds hunted well. Hounds then started to swing on a big right hand arc around Binton woods and out over the Seale back road into the salad fields with hounds hunting hard out in the open. They swung left back behind Seale village then on back into the top end of Binton woods.
After a good 3-4 hours hounds were picked up and taken home.
As the Season is now over we are having a break and hounds will be kennelled at the Berks & Bucks' kennels for 2 weeks.
Thanks again to those that have asked how hounds are and have shown a keenness to see more of hounds out hunting from the mounted followers to the very growing support of the foot followers too.
There will be a number of things happening with hounds during the summer months. I hope when we have the dates put together, as many of you as possible will be able to take the time to support the hounds at the various shows and parades that take place this year. One confirmed date is for the Festival of Hunting at Peterborough Showground on the 16th July 2008.
This is a Wednesday so please book your day off now, as I would like as many followers to attend and show their support. If enough people wish to come then there may be a option to have a picnic on the day there during the Hound Show.
Anyone who wishes to get involved with hounds and exercising of hounds during the summer is always welcome to come and have a day at the Kennels anytime. Please feel free to contact me at the Kennels on:
